| Strength Training |
Functional strength training is about training the body as a whole unit. The human body is an integrated unit with hundreds of muscles that work together to perform a variety of functions so it makes sense to train in this way. A lot of gym equipment will train the body in isolation which would be fine if that was how the body worked, but it doesn't. Functional strength training does not have to involve heavy weights or cumbersome equipment, it involves getting the muscles to work as a unit to improve overall strength. If you have a personal trainer that is not training you in this way or has not mentioned training in this way then you will not be getting all you can out of your sessions. As functional strength training doesn't involve heavy weights it is a great way of training people with conditions like arthritis or other bone joint disorders as the training is not isolated to one part of the body. Also this type of training is great for sports people as sports involve strength utilization from the whole body. |
